Ira Armstrong, 80, of Glendale died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Terry Bess officiating. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Feb. 24, 1918, in Phoenix, Ariz. On July 6, 1938, he married the former Susie Peters in Reserve, N.M. He lived in New Mexico for many years before moving to Southern Oregon.

From 1957 to 1969, he worked for the Josephine County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator. He had lived in Glendale for the past five years.

Armstrong attended Glendale Assembly of God Church.

He especially enjoyed gardening and farming.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Elzie Armstrong of Anchorage, Alaska, Gerald "Jerry" Armstrong of Grants Pass, Elvin Armstrong of Aurora, Colo., and Steve Armstrong of Glendale; two daughters, Violet Braun and Joyce Pierce, both of Glendale; two brothers, Bud Armstrong and Frank Armstrong, both of Grants Pass; two sisters, Alice Graeber of Grants Pass and Ora Derrick of Ozark, Ark.; 26 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
