Charlie "Buck" Hayes, 95, of Modesto passed away December 28 of natural causes at Casa de Modesto. Born in Kinta, Oklahoma he was a loving husband, a "daddy" to 6 children and a grandpa, great-grandpa and great-great grandpa to many others.
Buck was a hard working family man. Born one, of 7 children, to Charlie and Allie Hayes, he grew up during a period of true American western history. In a time when hard work meant survival and education was learned through life lessons. By age 8 he left school to work in the fields along side his family. On Dec 18, 1935 he married Neoma Armour and together they raised 6 children. During the Great Depression they worked as a Sharecroppers and were Dust Bowl survivors. In 1955, Buck moved his family to Texas to work on a cotton farm and in 1963 they moved to California for a "better" life.
His survivors include: Harvey (Letta) Hayes of Nevada; Mildred (Robert) Elston of Modesto; Jimmy Hayes of Oklahoma; James (Dyan) Hayes of Modesto; Sisters: Aline of Auburn and Lorrine of Oklahoma.
Preceding him in death: his wife of 73 years, Neoma; son, Troy Hayes and daughter Laverne Rinker.
Private arrangements are entrusted to Eaton Family Funeral Home and his final resting place is at Lakewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to any favorite charity
