Theodore F. Beck Jr., 80 Of Secane, PA Theodore F. Beck Jr., 80 , died Saturday November 10, 2012 in the Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Drexel Hill, PA. Born in Ridley Park, PA, he was the son of the late Theodore F. Beck Sr. and the late Helen R. (Jester) Beck.
Ted graduated from Ridley Twp. High School in 1950. He received a BS in math and science from West Chester State College in 1954. While at West Chester he earned 11 letters in football, basketball and Track. He was Captain of the basketball team in his Senior Year and won the most starred performance in sports for 1954 for breaking a 35 year old javelin record.
He was also Vice President of student government at W.C. Mr. Beck received his Masters in both Secondary Education and Secondary Administration from Villanova University. After graduating from college Ted spent 2 years in the U.S. Army in Korea.
He joined the staff of Ridley Twp. High School in 1956 as a teacher in math and science and also as a football and track coach. In 1966 he became an administrator serving as a disciplinarian. For the last 8 years of his 38 years in the district, he was principal of Ridley High School. Mr Beck served on 3 middlestates evaluations, was past president of the Delaware County Coaches Assoc.
and the Central League. He was elected to the Ridley Twp. Hall of Fame and the Ridley Football Hall of Fame. He was a member of Delco School Retirees, PA Assoc of Retired Administrators and Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Pre-deceased by his sister Dorothy Rohr Survived by his wife Barbara (nee Brown) Beck; 1 daughter Cynthia (David) Waters; 3 sons Theodore F. (Kathleen) Beck III, Timothy Beck and Thomas Beck; grandchildren Madison, Quinton and Mason Beck, Nicholas and David Waters. Funeral Service Thursday at 10 AM at Kevin M. Lyons Funeral Service, 202 S.Chester Pike, Glenolden.
Visitation Wednesday 6 to 9 PM and Thursday 9 to 10 AM at Kevin M. Lyons Funeral Service. Burial Fernwood Cemetery, Fernwood.
