Johnny Rae Shipley, 70, of Greeneville, passed away Tuesday at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. Shipley was a 1960 graduate of Greeneville High School. He attended Berea College (1960-1962) and Tusculum College (1962-1964).

He was a Tennessee Department of Revenue Sales Tax Auditor and owner of Shipley's Greenhouses.

Mr. Shipley was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years: Joyce Williams Shipley; two daughters and sons-in-law: Jonna and Rob Rhea of Greeneville and Jada and Matt Ball of Searcy, Ark.; a son and daughter-in-law: John and Staci Shipley of Greeneville; four grandchildren: Parker Shipley, Conner Shipley, Riley Rhea, and Maddox Ball, whom he especially loved; his mother: Mary C. Shipley of Greeneville; a sister and brother-in-law: Faye and Eugene Shepherd of Greeneville; a brother and sister-in-law: Hugh Allen and Joyce Ann Shipley of Chuckey; a brother-in-law and his wife: Ronnie and Becky Williams; several special nieces and nephews; his special friends: Dr. Stephen Reed, Dr. William Lindsay, Dara Miller, Dr. Joe Austin, Dr. Maynard Austin, Jim and Jo Deason, the members of Hardee's Breakfast Club, and his many friends and customers of Shipley's Greenhouses.

He was preceded in death by his father, Guy Shipley, a son, Jason John Shipley; and a brother: Dennis Grady Shipley.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. today Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service, Afton Chapel.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with interment in Shiloh Cemetery. The Rev. Dennis Shumate and the Rev. Jamie Lively will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Billy Fellers, Rob Rhea, Matthew Ball, Kevin Shipley, Paul Shipley, and Shawn Williams.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Thompson, Johnny Riddle, Ray McKnight, Danny Wampler, Ed Dean, Ronnie Williams, Bob Weaver, Billy Wilhoit, and Joe Armstrong.
