Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. At the start of the Civil War, he was a civil engineer and farmer, when commissioned a Captain, in the Purcell Artillery Battery, in 1861. He took part in the First Battle of Bull Run and was promoted Colonel chief of artillery in General Ambrose P. Hill's division. Walker took part in all the major campaigns in the East, in 63 battles and engagements, never being wounded. He was promoted to Brigadier General on February 18, 1865. After the war, he returned to his career as a civil engineer and farmer.
