Marjorie Emma Sothman, age 77, of Griswold, died Saturday morning, Aug. 20, 2011, at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold.
Marjorie Emma Sothman was born in Atlantic, on March 31, 1934, the daughter of Edward Shaw and Edith Christine (Hafele) Mullins. She attended school in Atlantic. On Dec. 13, 1956 she was united in marriage to Vergal William Sothman in Maryville, Mo. They lived East of Griswold where they farmed until they retired in 1975. Vergal died in 1996. Marjorie moved to Griswold for several years before moving just West of Griswold. Marjorie maintained her own home until the time of her death.
Marjorie was very active in the Griswold Historical Society, the Cass County Museum, and as a volunteer at the Griswold Care Center. She loved to travel, especially to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Marjorie enjoyed NASCAR, antiquing, and animals, especially cats.
Survivors include nieces and nephews: Rock Johnston and his wife Cynthia, Deborah McAllister and husband Robert, Suzanne Mullins, Robin Johnston and wife Kelly, Christine Pedersen and husband Danny, Amy Mullins Leidich and husband Thomas, Richard Johnson and wife Joyce, DeWayne Sunderman, Ken Sunderman and wife Sharon, David Sunderman, Dale Sunderman and wife Sheryl, and Barb Waters and husband Jim; her sisters-in-law, Clara Sunderman and Darlene Petersen; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Vergal; sister Edith Ann and husband Merle Johnston; her brother Edward Shaw and wife Carolyn Mullins; her sister-in-law Leona Johnson; her niece Jerree Ward; her nephew Randy Johnston; and her parents.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery. Open visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold on Monday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening. Memorials may be given to the Cass County Museum or the Griswold Care Center Auxiliary.
