Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Tuesday, March 27, 1928:
Edward Joseph McLean died at 5:15 a.m. today at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward McLean, 317 West Linden street, from blood poisoning. He had been seriously ill for several days.
Several weeks ago an infection developed on a finger, but it apparently yielded to treatment. During the past two weeks he suffered with an infected cist. The more serious trouble may have resulted from either of the infections or an entirely difference cause.
He spent the early part of last week at his usual work at the Nelson plant, but was feeling so badly Wednesday that he did not return to work the following day. Thursday he had symptoms of la grippe, but was so much worse Friday and Saturday that blood cultures were made. They showed negative. Sunday and yesterday his illness became even more critical and the true trouble was in evidence.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rev. C.A. O'Reilly will officiate. Burial will be made at Calvary Cemetery.
Edward McLean was born in Edwardsville October 10, 1908. His untimely death occurred in his twentieth year. He attended the Edwardsville public schools, being graduated from High School in 1926. After finishing school he was employed by the Roxana Petroleum Corporation at Roxana, and lately accepted a place in the plating department of the N.O. Nelson Manufacturing Company.
Besides his parents, he is survived by six sisters and brothers. They are: Mrs. Mae Agles, Misses Gertrude and Mary McLean, Donald and Robert McLean of this city and Mrs. Edna Flavin of St. Louis.
