Paranormal researcher, author, lector

She also started a charity called "Saving Graves" where she "adopted" neglected and dilapidated cemeteries and became the unofficial custodian.

Doris "Dusty" Smith, 50, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012.

Doris was a resident of Holly Hill since 1980. She was the founder of the Daytona Beach Paranormal Research Group, Inc., the owner of Haunts of the World's Most Famous Beach Ghost Tours, and author of many books about paranormal activity. Her book, "Dread and the Dead Filled the Dunnam House", was featured on the Discovery Channel's show, "A Haunting". Her favorite quote, "You can tell the morals of a culture by the way they treat their dead", Benjamin Franklin, was evidenced in her dedication to cemetery preservation.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Kyle Rankin; her mother and step-father, Margaret and Louis Rovegno, Daytona Beach; sister, Colleen Miller, Detroit Michigan; brothers Paul Gutter, West Morland, TN and Thomas Rovegno, Holly Hill, FL; a nephew, several nieces, and a grand-niece.

Her life will be celebrated at a memorial service Monday; 1:00 PM at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Rd, Ormond Beach.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her memory to your local humane society.
