Riley M. Smith died at his home in Blain on Saturday morning on his 71st birthday. He was born in Blain, the son of George and Rebecca Thomas Smith, and was a merchant in Blain for forty years. He was a prominent Republican who served as Perry County Treasurer, and was a Blain School Director. He was also a member of Adams Lodge, No. 319, Free and Accepted Masons, of New Bloomfield; the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Blain; Royal Order of Moose, Newport; a director of Blain Cemetery Association, a charter member of the Blain Lions Club and served as an elder of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, Blain, for eighteen years.
The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Miriam K. Elder Smith. Funeral services were held in the Reformed Church of Blain on Tuesday at 11 a. m., with the pastor, the Rev. Dean Feather, officiating. Burial was made in the Blain Cemetery. Services at the grave were conducted by the Masonic Lodge.
