Lora Selma Campbell passed away Jan. 19, 2012, at a local care facility in Brookings. She was 99.

Selma was born Sept. 6, 1912, in Pangburn, Ark., to Andrew and Artie (Wahl) Gregory.

She graduated high school in Pangburn.

Selma married C. Fell Campbell on Sept. 14, 1929. They lived on a farm. Selma later bought a general store, a cotton gin and a grist mill and served as post mistress in Shiloh, Ark., for about five years. They then moved to Shirley, Ark., and leased a shopping center. They added a restaurant and pool hall, grocery store, gas station and jukebox business.

When Fell was called to serve in World War II, they sold all the businesses except the jukebox store, which they later sold after moving to Heber Springs, Ark.

After the war, the family moved to Brookings where Fell bought a sawmill on Easy Street. Selma worked as his bookkeeper. After that, she worked at US Bank for nine years and then Western Bank for 12 years. She would work as real estate agent two years before retiring.

Selma and Fell served as early Azalea Festival Pioneer Citizens. Selma was active, for more than 60 years, in the First Baptist Community Church in Brookings where she taught Sunday school and served as treasurer. She was also active in the Order of the Eastern Star and the VFW (Veteran of Foreign Wars) Auxiliary.

Selma enjoyed spending time with her family including all of her grandchildren. She also loved to entertain and with Fell being mayor of Brookings and a Curry County commissioner, was called on to do so frequently, including housing then-Gov. Mark Hatfield. She also liked making needlework afghans.

Survivors include her sister Lola Dews of Kansas City, Kan.; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Patsy Campbell of Port Orford; grandchildren Jimmy Campbell and his wife Barb, Mike Campbell and his wife Ruth; great-grandchildren Greg Campbell and his wife Brittany, Kimberly Campbell, and Andrew Campbell; great-great grandchildren Trentyn, Hunter, Lora, Makenna and Jayden.

In addition to her husband, Selma was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
