Our beloved mother, Barbara Fowler Cone Berlinghof, born in Unadilla, N.Y., on June 15, 1905, went safely home to Heaven at the Good Shepherd-Fairview Home on June 8, 2006, one week before her 101st birthday. She was the widow of Dr. Clifton Harold Berlinghof, a Binghamton physician who was Chief of Staff at Binghamton General Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents, Bertha McKay and Monte S. Cone; a grandson, Clifton Robert Berlinghof; her sister, Katherine Cone Todd; and her brother, Monte Fowler Cone. She is survived by her three children, her sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Overton and Mary Elizabeth Berlinghof, Newport, R.I., David Miller and Cynthia Berlinghof, Wilmette, Ill.; her daughter, Barbara (Bonnie) Cone Berlinghof, N.Y.C.; five beloved grandchildren, Amy S. Mitchell, Kathryn E. Stebbins, Berkshire, Todd Berlinghof, Margaret B. McCall, Jennifer B. Corcoran; ten great-grandchildren and three nephews. Mrs. Berlinghof graduated from Cornell University in 1927, where she was a member of the Delta Delta Sorority. She lived in Binghamton since 1928, and spent much of her life volunteering. She was one of the founders of the Binghamton Junior League and a recipient of the Watrous Silver Bowl Award for outstanding service to the League. A longtime member of the Binghamton General Hospital Auxiliary, she also served on the Trinity Memorial Church Altar Guild for many years. She was an active member of the Board of Directors of Good Shepherd-Fairview Home and in 2002, she received a Certificate of Merit for her dedicated community service to the Home. An avid equestrian, she rode often at the former Kilmer Stables on Riverside Drive. She was, for many years, an active member of the Monday Afternoon Club and was the oldest member of the Binghamton City Club. A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated nurses and certified nurses aides of Good Shepherd-Fairview, who made our mother's life pleasant, comfortable, and loving, especially during the last weeks of her life. "Mother, you made your heart a home into which you invited loving thoughts and friends." An avid reader, she shared her knowledge and wisdom with all around her.
