Born at Winkler, Manitoba on 25 June 1905, he moved to Winnipeg at an early age. He attended the University of Manitoba, graduating in 1926 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He then studied law, winning the Gold Medal in his final year. He practiced law in Winnipeg and lectured in criminal law at the University of Manitoba Law School. In 1962 he was appointed a judge in the Court of Queen's Bench. On his retirement from that court in 1980, he was appointed a judge of the federal court, where he served until 1983.

He was a member of the Manitoba Bar Association (President, 1958-1959) and a Life Member of the Law Society of Manitoba. He served as president of the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, the B'nai Brith, the Glendale Golf and Country Club and a Life Governor of the YMHA. He was a member of the Mount Sinai Lodge and several other organizations.

He died after a long illness at Winnipeg, on 10 November 1988, and was buried in the Shaarey Zedek Memorial Gardens.
