Served in the Spanish-American War.

Corporal Johnson was a member of the 3rd Engineer Combat Battalion 24th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on August 11, 1950. Corporal Johnson was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
