"Ruel Anderson Killed By Train At Donation St.

A Kelso pedestrian, Ruel W. Anderson, 52, was killed almost instantly at about 2 a.m. today when he was struck by a southbound Northern Pacific freight train at or near the Donation St. crossing.
Kelso police and the sheriff's office said they believed the southbound train struck Anderson and dragged him a short distance along the track before the engineer and two brakemen on a northbound train spotted the body and stopped a few minutes later.
Meanwhile, a Longview motorist, Frances L. Code of 536 17th Ave., escaped injury when her automobile coasted onto the Allen St. crossing and was struck by a freight train shortly before midnight. Damage to her auto was estimated at $450 by her.
County Coroner Dr. D. D. Davenport said it is possible Anderson slipped on the track and fell into the freight train or was stunned just as the train approached.
Anderson, a World War I veteran, came to Kelso in 1913. He was a former shingle weaver and landscape gardener and lived at Rt. 1, Box 416.
Survivors include a son, Conrad of Santa Monica, Calif.; his mother, Mrs. Nan Fuller of Kelso; a sister, Mrs. Walter Murray of Eufaula Heights; a bother, Frank of California; two half brothers, Harold Fuller of Kelso and Herschel Fuller of Kelso; two half sisters, Mrs. Helen Schuss of San Diego and Mrs. Lauren Venable of Astoria.
