HAROLD MARGOLIS On Saturday, February 17, 2001, after a lengthy illness, Harold Margolis, 83 years, passed away at The Sharon Home in Winnipeg. Predeceased by his loving wife Doris of 55 years in July of 1997, and his brother Norman Margolis of Vancouver in October of 2000, he leaves to mourn his three daughters...; his grandchildren, ...; his brother ...; his sisters, ...; and many nieces and nephews who all have fond memories of their Uncle Harold. Harold was born in Chodorkov, Ukraine in 1917. In 1929, he and his parents, Moses (Moshe) and Clara (Bobtzi) his brothers... and his sister ... came to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. During the war, Harold served in The Canadian Air Force as an airplane mechanic with a rank of Leading Air Craftsman and was awarded a General Service Medal and a Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Upon his discharge from the armed forced in 1945, he opened a small printing business, Kromar Printing Ltd. Although Harold had left school after Grade 8, he had the greatest respect for the printed word. Printing became his passion and he worked tirelessly to create a business that came to be highly regarded throughout Canada. His love for the craft led him to act as mentor to other young aspiring printers, giving selflessly of his time and energy. His exceptionally high standards in business ethics and quality of product were admired even by his competitors. Harold was also instrumental, along with his wife Doris, in the preservation of The Israelite Press newspaper, thus providing a vehicle for Yiddish expression and commentary. Harold was a Mason and a lifetime member of the Bnai Brith. He was also a generous benefactor of many charitable causes in Canada, Israel and all over the world. The family wishes to offer thanks to the fourth floor staff at the Sharon Home for their care, and gratitude to Harold Margolis longtime companion, Juanita Lauguico, for her incredible loyalty and devotion throughout his lengthy illness. Funeral services were held at The Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, 561 Wellington Cresc., Winnipeg, on Monday, February 19. Interment was at The Shaarey Zedek Cemetery, 230 Armstrong, West Kildonan. ...
