Henry and Cora had three sons. The other two, who were not with their parents in the auto/train accident, were teenagers, at the time. My grandfather told me that the oldest was set to go to college, and was going to be the first in the family to do so. His grandson told me he didn't know anything about his grandfather having had plans to go to college, but if my grandfather remembered it, it was probably true. Many people didn't dwell on things and it could be that he never told his grandson about it. At any rate, he had to cancel those plans and stay home and run the family farm and look after his younger brother.

They had been a very happy family, though and both Henry and Cora enjoyed life. There is a story about them throwing out the mash from home wine making, to the geese, apparently not realizing it had more alcohol than usual. The geese got so drunk that they passed out, so Cora decided it would be a good time to pluck their down feathers. However, when the geese came to, and discovered their feathers gone, they put up such a squawk that she decided to get some friends and relatives together and knit union suits for them. The geese were much happier in their union suits, and wore them until their down grew back!
