Nancy Ann was the 6th child (and the fifth daughter) of Jacob Jones and his wife, Hannah Cass Jones. She was the wife of John Alford, and their families were pioneers of the city of Louisville, settling in the Portland area.

Nancy Ann's entire family had removed from England in 1819, sailing to America on a windjammer. She was married at the time, and traveled with her husband, John Alford (See detailed story on his Find A Grave page).

John Alford and Nancy Ann had 12 children, with one of them dying in infancy.

A grandson recalled that the family would travel back and forth to Louisville in a carriage which one of the younger boys would drive. He said that his Grandma Alford was a proud lady, always wearing stiff silk dresses and black lace caps.

Nancy Ann Alford died July 13, 1855, at age 56.

In John Alford's will (written in September of 1855), he says to his children: "Now I give you into the hands of God the Son and God the Holy Ghost in hope that we all may meet your dear mother at the throne of God. This is the prayer of your father on earth."

She was buried in what is now called Western Cemetery.
