Allen Mead came to Walton from Connecticut about 1800, Walton, at that time, being scarcely large enough to be called a village. Here Alan Mead settled and built a tannery on Mount Pleasant and built a house on Franklin Road, afterward removing his tannery to East Brook. He had a shoe shop in a little building on these premises which he ran in connection with his tannery which was over the bank from Franklin Road in the area adjoining West Brook.
