Mrs. Bemelman, the widow of Louis, bore the maiden name of Miss Caroline Knack, and is a native of Prussia, Germany, born Jun. 25, 1838. When nineteen years of age she accompanied her parents, John and Mary Knack, to America, and settled with them in Kane County, ILL.

She was living in Kane County, ILL., when her marriage to Louis occurred, in May 9, 1858.

This union was productive of four children, of whom we note the following: Minnie became the wife of Evert King, a farmer of Brainerd County, MN; Henry J. who lives in Turner County, SD; William operates the home farm in his mother's interests, and Anna is also at home
