Charles Peterson first came to the United States in 1894 with his brother Nels. They lived at the Sagola Boarding House while working at the sawmill prior to 1894. He met 2 uncles & returned to Sweden.
Anna S Peterson was born in Winnderstad, Ostergotland, Sweden. She helped her sister Alma & brother Arvid immigrate to the United States.
Charles & Ann arrived in Sagola, Dickinson, Michigan in 1896. They married October 26, 1896 at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. Charles, 38, was employed as a fireman for Sagola Lumber Company. Anna, 18, is the daughter of August & Ida Gustafson & the sister of Alma (Carl) Simondson.
Charles had to clean the boilers, on Sunday night when the mill was down. He would come home soaken wet & in the winter months his clothes would freeze.
When the company began selling homes, the Petersons purchased one & moved it on two 40s northeast of Sagola. There they farmed with 8-10 cows, a team of horses, a hundred or so chickens while also growing potatoes, grain & hay. Each of their 9 children were born in Sagola: all are linked except the last, Mae b. July 21, 1918 m.
