Thomas Bradshaw Roach, 66, prominent Columbia businessman, died at 12:15 this morning at his residence, 1407 Confederate Avenue after suffering a heart attack about half an hour earlier.
Mr. Roach was president of the Palmetto Candy Company and chairman of the board of trustees of the Columbia Hospital. He had served the hospital board as a member for about ten years. He was an elder of Arsenal Hill Presbyterian Church and a member of the city civil service board. He was a native of York County.
Surviving is his widow, the former Miss Harriett Hall Estes of Chester, two daughters, Mrs. Blanche Roach (James) Bass and Miss Claudia Roach, both of Columbia, a son T. B. Roach Jr., of Leakesville, N. C., one sister, Mrs. W. F. Jaquet of New York, one half-sister, Mrs. Martha Lathan of York County and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Bass and Jimmy Roach Bass.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock from Arsenal Hill Presbyterian Church by the Rev. S. K, Phillips pastor, assisted by the Rev. F. Ray Riddle, pastor of Shandon Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be P. D. Steele, E. C. Clark, W. B. Austin, C. L. Beckham, Harry Cissel and Eugene Cone.
Honorary pallbearers will be all employees of Palmetto Candy Company, Mayor L. B. Owens, member of city council, members of city civil services commission, members of the board of directors of Columbia hospital, members of the board of directors of Home Federal Savings, B and L Association, Cole L. Blease, C. T. Graydon, George W. Collins, Harry Desportes Sr., Leon Hook, Ed Hope, Tom B. Pearce, Charles F. Bradford, J. M. Mobley, W. M. Mobley, W. C. Peeler, H. H. McGill, Jesse T. Reese, Eugene McNulty, Dr. Frank Owens, H. W. Young Sr., H. E. Watts, W. H. Sellars, C. H. Baldwin and elders of Arsenal Presbyterian Church.
