Robert Martin Greaney, Jr.: 74, of Bay Minette, Alabama and Andover, Maine died on Thursday, August 24, 2000 at The Hospice at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Greaney was born on May 30, 1926 in Portland, Maine. He attended Portland schools and was the President of his class at Portland High School. Mr. Greaney served in the United States Air Force and attended college on the G.I. Bill. He graduated from Gorham State Teachers College and pursued graduate studies in history at the University of Connecticut. After teaching school for several years, Mr. Greaney worked in the insurance and investments businesses. He was an individual insurance agent and a financial advisor. Mr. Greaney also owned and managed an import export business and an interior design business. Mr. Greaney is survived by his wife of twenty-eight years, Dorothy Parker Greaney. He and his wife traveled extensively over the years. They spent significant time in Mexico, Spain, Costa Rica and Barbados and Europe. He enjoyed living in and learning about different cultures. Mr. and Mrs. Greaney established an exchange program for Spanish children in Mijas, Spain. Mr. Greaney was an exceptional golfer learning golf as a caddie. He enjoyed golf his entire life and found joy in teaching golf to his children. He was a scratch golfer most of his life. Mr. Greaney is also survived by his two sisters, Pat Oransky of Ft. Lauder dale, Florida and Connie Kilroy of Portland, Maine; brother, John Greaney of Amherst, New Hampshire; his children, Nick Waugh of West Peru, Maine, Bennett Waugh of Carrbboro, North Carolina, Sam Waugh of Houston, Texas, Cheryl Greaney of Portland, Maine, Alexander Waugh of Charlotte, North Carolina, Seth Waugh of Garden City, New York and Marc Greaney of Fryeburg, Maine; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Robbie Greaney. Private services to celebrate his life will be held in Alabama and Maine.
