Obituary: The Baltimore Sun February 28, 1902

Mr. Nicholas Lynch, 79 years old, a naval veteran and retired warrent officer, died at 933 Hopkins avenue yesterday morning. He enlisted in the navy in 1861 and was assigned to the United States frigate Congress, which was burned in Hampton Roads, March 8, 1862 in the battle with the Confederate Ironclad Virginia. He was on the frigate Vincennes in 1863, the Colorado in 1864, the California in 1871 and on the New Hampshire until he was retired 18 years ago.

At one time Mr. Lynch was employed in the Equipment Bureau at the Washington Navy Yard. In his younger days he was president of the Deptford Fire Company, a volunteer organization. During his naval career he served under Farragut, Dewey, Schley and Sampson. He had been a widower for seven years and is survived by 5 children, 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The children are Mrs. M. E. Bardwell, of Washington; Mrs. Robert Bennett, Mrs. Frank Bennett, Mrs. Charles Webster, of Baltimore and Mr. Wilson N. Lynch, of Morristown, Pa.
