SELINSGROVE -- Wilfred I. "Wimpy" Boyer, 81, husband of the late Virginia T. Boyer, died peacefully Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Geisinger Medical Center with his family and pastor at his side after a sudden illness.

Wilford was born in Selinsgrove, a son of the late Roy and Rhea (Miller) Boyer.

He graduated from Selinsgrove High School in 1946. He served in the Army, based in Iceland, from 1946 through 1948.

Upon discharge from the military, he worked for the local telephone company, Selinsgrove Construction and the state Department of Transportation for more than 30 years until he retired. While semi-retired, he worked for Weis Markets and Value City.

He was an active member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Market Street, Selinsgrove, and participated in numerous events over the years. He was a member of the Dauntless Hook & Ladder Fire Company and the Selinsgrove Moose.

He was an avid Pitt and Selinsgrove Seals fan. He loved high school and college sports. In his earlier years, Wimp hung out with friends at the Spotts Pool Room in downtown Selinsgrove. He was remembered for his witty sense of humor. One of his greatest prides was watching his grandson, Brandon Aungst, No. 69, play football for the Seals. His other love was their dog, Daisy, and their cats. He enjoyed the family cabin and boating on the river. He was a loving, devoted husband and caretaker to the love of his life, Ginny Boyer.

He is survived by his brother, Leonard Boyer and wife Sandra of Ellenton, Fla., their children, Leonard Boyer and wife Linda of Hawley, Gregory Boyer of Harrisburg and daughter Tanya Walk of Hummelstown; nephew Jay Bogar II and wife Linda of Selinsgrove, their son, Eric Sr. and his son Eric Jr., daughter Shawna Coder and husband Ryan of East Petersburg; nephew Jeffrey Bogar and wife Carol of Selinsgrove, their sons, Zachary Bogar, Chad Bogar and wife Jamie of Edgerton, Wis., Jason Bogar and significant other Jillian Eister of Sunbury and daughter Lauren Bogar of Selinsgrove; niece, Susan Schieber and the late William Schieber of Bonita, Calif., and sons, Rodney and Mark Schieber; stepdaughter, Deborah A. Gadzicki, her husband Walter, of Royersford, and their daughter Lauren Boyd and husband Ryan and their daughter, Ashlyn of Lancaster, son, W. Brant Gadzicki of Pottstown and his significant other Heather Murphy and their daughter, Alayna Gadzicki; stepson, David R. App, and his significant other Vickie Gephart of Boyertown, sons Justin App and wife Tina of Schwenksville, and their daughter, Lindsey, son, Joshua App and daughter Brooke M. App of Limerick, and son, Nathan App of Boyertown; stepson, Douglas C. App and wife Carol of Kreamer, sons Christopher App and Michael App; and stepdaughter Laura J. Aungst and husband Todd of Selinsgrove, daughter Jessica Aungst and son Brandon Aungst.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Eldon Boyer of Selinsgrove, and a sister, Thelma Bogar of Selinsgrove.

Friends and family may call from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 400 N. Market St., Selinsgrove, followed by the funeral at 4 with the Rev. Dietmar Plajer officiating.

Burial will follow in Zion Church Cemetery, Kratzerville.

Funeral arrangements are by the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove.
