Susan (who also appears as Susanna) was born in Bridgewater, Plymouth, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Captain Jonathan and Huldah (Snow) Snow. She married Jeremy (who also appears as Jeremiah) Hixon on November 5, 1809 in Bridgewater.

The couple first settled in Stoughton, Massachusetts, and removed to Erie County, Pennsylvania sometime between 1815 and 1818: their son Thomas being born in Massachusetts in 1815, and their daughter Olive in Pennsylvania in 1818. The family then removed to Michigan City, La Porte County, Indiana in 1834, before eventually settling on a farm in Winfield Township, Lake County, Indiana.

Her son, Loren's biography states that there were eight children who came from the union. This agrees with the 1830 census for Fairview, Erie County, Pa., where the total number in the household is reported to be ten. Six of the children coming from the union were: Jeremy, Lucas, Thomas, Olive, Loren, and Quincy.

There is some discrepancy concerning the date of Susan's birth. The Massachusetts vital records report her birth as June 25, 1793. This is the same date reported in the William Snow Genealogy book. This would be our Susanna as the spouse is correct. Loren Hixon's biography in the Porter and Lake County: historical and biographical book reports Susan's birth as 1791. This date also agrees with her stone.
