He was married to my Granny Reva BRUNSON when he was 16 and she was 15.
His only child: Douglas DeLyle SLY b. 16 July 1936
I was the only grandchild he was close to. My son Lance was the only great grandchild he was close to.
He joined the Navy where he contracted TB within 6 months after being on a submarine.
He was a willy character still dreaming of bull riding after his whole body had been broken up but not the sparkle in his eyes.
And what sparkling eyes they were, two different colors, blue and green.
I received a message that this is a duplicate (100477). But this is my beloved Grandpa and his middle name is spelled correctly here.
Any real, true, genealogist/historian knows that even tombstones and obituaries are often wrong.
I have his VA records, a copy of his marriage license to my Granny, his church records, ect... plus the precise letters he wrote me.
I have more photos and stories to add when I can get to all that I need to get do.
A favorite story is my son Lance KENT still treasures the teddy bear from his Great Grandpa SLY sent to him Christmas 1977 when he was 16 months old.
As he does the stuffed doggy from his Great Granny.
I also have the bull riding spurs he gave me a few years before he died.
He said that they weren't his fanciest spurs but they were the ones he wore in 1957, the year I was born, and he made it to the rodeo finals back when they were held at Madison Square Garden's, New York.
