MR. SHERRER PASSES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Homer Clayton Sherrer, of the New 11th district died at a Cuthbert Hospital Thursday (12-22-1966) of last week following a lengthy illness. He was 82 years of age, a retired farmer and member of the Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Sherrer was born in Randolph County, the son of the late Lewis Dawson and Mary Elizabeth Spear Sherrer but lived in Terrell County for a long number of years.
He served as a member of the Terrell County Democratic Executive committee for many years but resigned due to ill health.
He was widely esteemed not only in his home community but throughout Terrell and Randolph Counties.
Surviving are his widow Myrtle Bell Sherrer, three daughters, Betty Sue Sherrer Schramm of Dawson, Claire Sherrer Phillips of Cuthbert, Ann Sherrer Thompson of Shellman; three sisters , Annie Sherrer Culpepper of Shellman, Minnie Sherrer Ivey of Cuthbert, and Mary Sherrer Youmans of Richmond Hill, Georgia; one brother J G Sherrer of Charleston, SC and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from Rehoboth Baptist Church of which he was a devoted member, with the Rev Charles Baker, pastor; the Rev T. Richard Davis, pastor First Baptist Church of Dawson and the Rev Ralph Thomas, pastor, of the Shellman First Baptist Church conducting the rites. Interment followed in church cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Leary Bell, George Bell, Bill Cromer, Herman Hilton, Fred Bentley, and Cecil Bentley.
