David was a son of William Y. Sense and his second wife, Lydia A. Davison. He married Miss Laura E. Moore, one of nine children born to Joseph B. Moore and Sarah M. Frame. Their wedding took place on December 7, 1887 in Woodland (Iroquois County), Illinois. David and Laura had a homestead near Alliance in Box Butte County, Nebraska from 1885 to 1892 when they moved to Springfield, Missouri. In 1896 they returned with their family to Iroquois County, Illinois, where David farmed southeast of Watseka. He served as school director and highway commissioner. David was also a member of the Modern Woodmen Lodge. He and Laura had six children, four sons and six daughters.
