Mary Candace "Candy" Walling Post was born in Houston on April 19, 1936, to Elbert and Helen Walling. She passed away November 6, 2012, in Dallas. Candy graduated from Lamar High School in Houston and headed to Waco to attend Baylor University, where she was a proud member of the "Greatest of the Great, the Class of '58." After earning her BA in Education, she moved to Dallas, teaching fourth and fifth graders. In 1959, she joined Wilshire Baptist Church, where she was an active member for over 50 years. In 1963, she received her Master of Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. Candy's interest in travel and service called her to Hawaii, where she taught at the Baptist Academy in Honolulu. After returning to Dallas she continued her education while teaching and received a Masters of Education from East Texas State University in 1971, and became a counselor in D.I.S.D. schools. While in the singles department at Wilshire, she met the love of her life, Max Post. They married in 1972, and moved to England, as Max had accepted a position overseas with Texas Instruments. Candy enjoyed being a tour guide for friends and family who visited them in England. They moved back to Dallas in 1975, in time for their son, Matthew, to be born. Two years later they were blessed with twin daughters, Cindy and Becky. After her children were older, Candy embarked on a career in residential real estate, working for nearly 20 years in the Lakewood area. Her biggest joy was helping young couples buy their first home. While this was her day job, everyone knew that her real job was being a Lakewood Mom. From driving kids to soccer practice, to acting as den mother for her son's Cub Scouts troop, to helping with Sunday School and Bible drills at Wilshire, Candy was always there for everyone. She maintained a visible presence at Woodrow Wilson High School, where all three of her children graduated. She never missed a chance to support and cheer for everyone's kids. This dedication and love for Woodrow and all of the Wildcat kids never waned, even after her own children had long graduated. Candy was an Alumnae Initiate of the Alpha Iota Chapter of Delta Gamma, where her daughters pledged, while attending the University of Oklahoma. She was now a mom and "sister" to both of her girls. Candy was a longtime member of the Baylor University Women's Council of Dallas and the Baylor Alumni Association. She was also a member of the Daughters of Texas Republic, and active in the Lakewood Antiques Club. Candy is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Max, her son, Matthew, of New York and daughters, Cindy and Becky, of Tulsa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Helen Walling and her brother, Clayton Walling. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Alice Walling, her nieces Sabrina Reynolds and Stacy Gosch and by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Candy will be missed by so many, but her legacy will live on in the lives of all. A private burial will be held for the family at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, November 12 at Wilshire Baptist Church, 4316 Abrams Rd. Published in Dallas Morning News from November 10 to November 11, 2012
