Wallace William Atkinson passed away on November 5, 2012, at his home in Orem, Utah. He was 89. Wally was born September 5, 1923, in Francis, Utah, the third of eight children born to Isaac Victor and Afton (Lefler) Atkinson. Older brother, Elmer Lloyd (Bud), and sisters Audrey Mitchell and Janice Mitchell survive.

Wally attended school in Kamas, Utah, Class of 1941. An expert at taking things apart and putting them back together to run, his mind was keen and always busy; many called on his expertise throughout his life. Early 1942 he joined the U.S. Army and went to war, tank driver in the 808 Tank Destroyer Battalion (U.S. Pershing vs German Panzer), highly decorated combat veteran, hunkered down with the tank crew for three weeks in Battle of the Bulge, December 1944. The end of summer of 1945 he was back home in Summit County, Utah. January 16, 1946, he married Myrla Maxwell in the Salt Lake Temple.

He attended two years of mechanics school in Independence, MO. as a young man. Spent his young adulthood in auto body/auto repair, working for Spencer Auto in Heber City, Utah. He worked for State Farm and retired as a claims adjuster.

In life their family lived in Kamas, Heber City, UT, Santa Maria, CA, Salt Lake City and Orem, Utah. For a decade they wintered in Yuma, AZ. Wally was an active high priest in the LDS Church, serving faithfully in many callings in his life. He and Myrla served a full-time mission to the San Diego Mormon Battalion Visitors Center. They made lifetime friends via bowling, camping, snowmobiling, motorcycling, missionary work and church service rendered.

Survived by wife and three children: Phillip (Glenna) Atkinson, Rock Springs, WY., Shauna (Jon) Fish, Sacramento, CA., Patricia Atkinson Orem, UT. and 12 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, granddaughter and four siblings.
