Lynn Leslie Denton, 64, aka Meadowlark in the mine, was called to the Lord, while at Ft. Meade VA Medical Center.


Parents: Evelyn and Leslie "Ted" Denton

Siblings: brothers; T. Denton and K. Denton

Schooling: Boulder Canyon and Lead High School, graduating in 1966
Military: US Navy, stationed at San Diego, CA, the Barbers Point, HI, Aleutian Islands, Adack, AK, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Honoralby discharged, Dec 7, 1969. In 1973, National Guard 842nd Rock Crushing Crew, Lead SD. Serving 15 years, for a total of 18 years searvice

A highlight was the filming of the movie Tora Tora.

Work history: Assay office at Homestake Mining Company, and in 1977, Electrical and Safety. Retiring with 31 years, after sustaining a severe electrocution.

Spouse: M. K. Mettler, Nov 27, 1971

Children: daughter H. L. (Denton) Cook, March 26, 1973, and a son, J. L. Cook, August 17, 1977.

3 grandchildren, aunt and uncle surviving him
Preceding him in death: father-in-law, Vern Mettler, a nephew, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Hobbies and activities: playing practical jokes, cooking meals for the Masons, driving Shriner's children to the hospital, and playing in the Oriental Band, decorating cakes, adoring his pets, and driving his old Willys jeep.
He'll always be remembered for his Booney Hats, funny t-shirts and fake finger.

A memorial service will be Friday, November 2, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Whitewood. Inurnment will take place at BH National Cemetery with Military and Masonic Burial Rights at 3:00 p.m. A luncheon will follow at the VFW in Deadwood.
