Catherine Margreat Sukowaty, 83, former Town of Meeme resident, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2002 at Willowdale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein, where she had resided since May 2001.

Born April 11, 1918 in the Town of Centerville, she was a daughter of the late Gregor and Catherine Schwartz Leonhard. She attended St. Wendel Catholic School and graduated from St. Fidelis Catholic School.

Catherine did housekeeping for a number of years and had been employed by the Kohler Company prior to her marriage.

On Aug. 11, 1945, she was united in marriage to Herbert W. Sukowaty.

The couple resided in the Town of Meeme, where they were engaged in farming.

Herbert preceded her in death Oct. 20, 1984. Catherine continued living in the Town of Meeme until October 2000, when she made residence with her daughter Lynette Mierzejewski in Elkhart Lake.

Catherine was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Osman, its Christian Mothers Society. She belonged to the Manitowoc County Farm Bureau, the Wagner-Eberle-Sukowaty Am. Legion Post Aux. of St. Nazianz and the Cleveland Senior Citizens. She had volunteered for the Manitowoc County Hospice Service.
Survivors are: Two sons: Theodore G. (Maureen) Sukowaty, Newton, and John R. (Kathy) Sukowaty, Howards Grove; three daughters: Mrs. Jean (Michael) Reimer, Sheboygan, Gerette Sukowaty, Manitowoc, Mrs. Lynette (Joseph) Mierzejewski, Elkhart Lake. Twelve grandchildren: Brian, Brenda, Steve, Kay Sukowaty, Newton; Jeremy, Jessica, Mitchell Reimer, Sheboygan; John, Keith, Lauren and Macaela Sukowaty, Howards Grove, and Marie Mierzewski, Elkhart Lake; one brother: Anthony (Mary) Leonard, Chilton; four sisters: Viola Braun, Sheboygan, Florence (Walter) Kress, Cleveland, Clarissa Tadych, Chilton, Ellen (Harry) Sturtz, Chilton, other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, five brothers: Ray, Hugo, Herbert, Arno and Lawrence Leonhard; five sisters: Hilaria Dreps, Mathilda Fesing, Evelyn Kolberg, Magdeline Belitz and Delores Leonhard.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Cleveland site (St. Wendel). Father David Beadry and Father Ron Belitz will officiate and burial will be at St. Fidelis Cemetery, Town of Meeme.

Friends may call at the church Wednesday, March 20, 2002 from
9 a.m. until the hour of service.

A memorial fund has been established in Catherine Sukowaty’s name.
