COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Wanda L. Murdock, 86, of Brunlar Court and formerly of Fly Creek, died Thursday morning, June 17, 1999, at Bassett Hospital.
She was born May 7, 1913, in Cooperstown, a daughter of Almond and Anna (Graves) Newkirk. She married Robert B. Murdock on Aug. 17, 1934, in Cooperstown. Mr. Murdock died Oct. 13, 1996.
A lifelong area resident, Wanda attended schools in Richfield Springs. During the 1950s and 1960s, she was employed as a sales clerk at The Smart Shop on Main Street in Cooperstown. She especially enjoyed sewing and quilting and was an avid fan of NASCAR racing.
Wanda was a member of the Fly Creek United Methodist Church and the Otsego-Hartwick Chapter No. 201, Order of the Eastern Star in Cooperstown.
She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Phyllis and Jerry Selan of Fly Creek, Janice Murdock of Austell, Ga., and Nancy Murdock of Cooperstown; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Douglas Murdock of Providence, R.I.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by one sister, Donella Sponburgh; and three brothers, Karl Newkirk, Jess Newkirk and Albert Newkirk.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 1999, in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery with Rev. Douglas Burleigh, chaplain of Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, officiating.
At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
