Ernest N. Murphy, 85, of Bartlett, TN was born to heaven Wednesday, November 7, 2012.

He was retired from the Memphis Police Department with 25 years of service, a security guard at the Tennessee National Guard airfield for nine years, and a WW II Army veteran.

Mr. Murphy was a Deacon for Raleigh Baptist, Bartlett Hills Baptist and Fayette Baptist, Chairman of the Deacons, Church Trustee, taught Sunday school and volunteered on Sunday afternoon at the Shelby County Nursing Home.

He loved coaching for 25 years and coached many great young men.

Mr. Murphy participated in the 1984-85 Senior Olympics and won 11 metals competing in sprints, shot put, long jump and high jump, was a avid bowler for over 40 years and enjoyed playing pool.

He is survived by his beautiful wife of 65 years, Deborah Tritt Murphy; two sons, Gary Newman Murphy (Kay) and Larry Gene Murphy (Jamie); sister, Elsie Phillips of Alamo, TN; grandchildren, Jason Murphy (Alexandra), Drew Murphy (Stacy), Kristen Hawkins (T.J.), Lindy Bowles (Matt), Haley MacLean (Mark), Deborah Grant and Micah Murphy. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Kylie, Kenzie, Kolbie, Murphy, Sadie and Charlie.

Interment will be in Forest Hill East Cemetery. Forest Hill East Funeral Home 901-382-1000
