Philadelphia, May 7- Daniel B. Cummins, president of the Girard National Bank, died suddenly last evening at his home, No. 2112 Walnut st. Mr. Cummins was born at Smyrna, Del., in 1810. He came to this city in 1828, and entered the dry goods business. He became interested in financial affairs, and in 1838 was elected president of the Girard National Bank. For many years Mr. Cummins was a director of the Pennsylvania Railroad and was closely identified with other financial institutions of this city. He was a prominent member of the Union League Club.
He was an ardent supporter of the Government during the Rebellion, and in the darkest financial period united with other bankers in taking Government bonds to an extent which exceeded the amount of their combined capital. Mr. Cummins was sole executor of the estate of I.V. Williamson, amounting to $11,020,000. He leaves a large fortune.
