inspector at the New York
Air Brake plant and a vet-
eran of World War II, died
unexpectedly e a r l y this
morning at his home, 703
Cooper St., apparently of a
heart attack.
Mr. Madlin, who was stricken ill about 4:45 this morning when he complained of chest
pains, was pronounced dead by a physician upon arrival at the Mercy Hospital by
ambulance at 5:40.
Mr. Madlin got up after he became ill and was walking from room to room when he
suddenly collapsed and evidently died at once. The physician who had been called
earlier had arranged for his removal to the hospital emergency room.
Apparently in his usual good health, Mr. Madlin had brought his wife home from
work at Harold's Music Box restaurant about 12:30 this morning.
Surviving him, besides his widow, Mrs. Concetta Nettie Compo Madlin,-are five children, Sheri Jo Madlin, 17, John M. and Julie R. Madlin,
13-year-old twins, and Linda L. and Lisa.A. Madlin, nine year-old twins; a sister, Mrs.
Joseph A. Jeannette E. Pacella, 140 N. Meadow St., and an aunt, Mrs. Jessie A. York
Meylor, 506 Stone St.
A brother, Harry R. (Ray) Madlin of this city, died suddenly July 26, 1962 while at
the Seymour Hotel, Ogdensburg. He was 42 years old.
Mr. Madlin was born in Watertown April 11, 1925, a
son of Harry Jf and Nellie C. York Madlin. After attending local schools, he was employed at Sowan's Market and for a time at Madison Barracks before joining the army
for war service.
Entering the army Sept.-
23, 1943, he received his basic
training at Fort Knox, Ky.,
and Fort George G. Meade,
Md.

1944, he saw combat duty in
France, Holland and Germany
with an armored division and
suffered shrapnel wounds of
the leg, hand and shoulder while in action in the Battle of the Bulge, Germany, Oct.
1, 1944. A private, he was honora--
bly discharged Dec. 29, 19,45 .

wounds at the Halloran General Hospital, Staten Island.
After the war, he was employed for a time at Sowan's bowling alleys and for a short
period was co-owner of the Breen A v e n u e Market, but since 1948 had been an employe of the Air Brake company plant.
* Active in labor union circles, he was, at his death, a trustee of Lodge 761, International Association of Machinists, and one of the two members of the temporary general
shop, committee. He was a former department steward of the union and had been local
delegate to District 137 of the
machinists' union.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church.

Cemetery.
