Leah E. Cox was born April 18, 1923 to the late Fred Douglas McAfee and Lou Ella Counce McAfee, in Counce, Tennessee where she grew up. She met her future husband, Pete Cox in Henderson, TN in 1943 shortly before he went to serve in WWII. They married Sept. 14, 1946 after his return. They made their home in Henderson, where they raised their family and resided all their days. She helped her sons farm and was bookkeeper for Pete's Sawmill, a job she continued for several years after his passing. She loved flowers and was known for her beautiful lilies. She loved to sing and dance for family entertainment. She was also an excellent seamstress who made her children's clothes and many quilts. She was also a jokester and storyteller. She loved fishing and all sports and over the years had amassed a large collection of baseball cards which she dispersed among her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Norma Jean Meissner of Memphis and Linda K. Hodgkiss (Thomas) of Eads; two sons, Wade Carson Cox and Wendell Lynn Cox (Janet) all of Henderson; grandchildren, Christie Nicole Brooks (Tim), Stefanie Anne Mead (Randy), Michael Dylan McKnight (Ann) Zack and Leah Hodgkiss, Clint Walter Cox and Kenton Joe Cox; great grandchildren, Cara, Caden and Sofie Hueter, Jake, Luke and Georgia Brooks; Ella Rose and Elijah Cole McKnight; a sister, Hazel Wanda Cox of Henderson and a brother, Ralph Counce McAfee of Annapolis, Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; sisters, Martha Beatrice Fern South, Fredna Earl Miller and Nell Lena Ruth Johnson and brothers, Clarence Douglas McAfee and Andy Egbert McAfee.
