Mrs. Coates was born on a farm north of Nashua on December 28, 1892, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Robert Wilson Bennett of Floyd County.

She married Loyal Dale Coates at the parental home March 5, 1913; five daughters and two sons were born to this union.

Mr. And Mrs. Coates farmed north of Nashua until 1925 when they purchased a farm south of Nashua which is the present Town and Country Club. They moved to their present home in town in 1946. Mrs. Coates was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church, taught Sunday school for many years and was active in all areas of church service. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the W.C.T.U.

She was preceded in death by one son, Samuel Alfred, in December of 1946; also, by three brothers and one sister.

Survivors are her husband, Dale; six children, 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. The children are: Mrs. Bert J. (Alice) Aldrich of Minneapolis; Mrs. Leo R. (Joy) Scoles of Colorado Springs, Co; Mrs. Emil (Garland) Koch of Plainfield; Loyal B. Coates of Nora Springs; Mrs. James R (Marilys) Graham of Lethbridge Alberta, Canada; and Mrs. Kenneth E. (Marilyn) Brown of Thousand Oaks, CA. Two sisters, Mrs. Herbert Thurow of Charles City and Mrs. Louis Matson of Mason City, also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dale Coates, 82, who died suddenly in her home Sunday morning, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the United Methodist Church in Nashua. Pastor Robert Lemmerman was the officiating clergyman. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Harriet Fisher, Mrs. Alice Richards, Mrs. Hazel Chamney and Mrs. Bea Hutchison. Music was by Mrs. Nelda Shepard, Organist, and Mrs. Shirley Drewis and Mrs. Janice Fritcher, Vocalists. Casket bearers were DeWitt Miller, Emil Vetter, Homer Lucas, Roger Richards, Wendell Miller and Gerald Fisher. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
