Yesterday afternoon at 5 o’clock at her home, 403 E. Olive St., occurred the death of Sarah Jane Penn, for a number of years a resident of Bloomington. Mrs. Penn had been quite ill during the past five days with paralysis, which caused her death. Sarah Jane Boyce, daughter of William and Sarah Boyce was born November 30, 1825 in Harrison County, Ohio, the first of a family of 12 children. She was united in marriage to John J. Penn in Paris, Pennsylvania September 12, 1844 and in 1852 they moved to Bloomington. Since then she has lived in Mclean County. During her girlhood days she joined the Methodist church and has been an exemplary Christian worker all her life. Besides a large number of friends and relatives she leaves one daughter, Mrs. Mathilda Paul of Venice, Illinois, wife of Robert Paul, an old time Alton engineer; three brothers, John Boyce, who for over 20 years was a member of the Bloomington police force, Homer C. Boyce, well known old time citizen and William G. Boyce and two sisters, mrs. Caroline C. Corson, formerly a resident of Normal, now of Sunnyside, Washington and Mrs. Stella Kemp, now residing in Clifton, Colorado. –Bloomington Pantagraph, October 4, 1912.
