Funeral Services Wednesday for UNL Educator Meierhenry

Services for longtime University of Nebraska-Lincoln educator Wesley C. Meierhenry will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Westminister Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd.
Meierhenry, 74, died Saturday [December 30, 1989] at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
A native of Arlington, Meierhenry taught in Nebraska for more than 50 years and retired as chairman of UNL's adult and continuing education department in 1984. After stepping down as chairman, he continued to teach part time until 1986.
After his retirement, a distinguished professorship at the UNL Teachers College was established in his name. A university faculty member for 43 years, Meierhenry was associate dean of the Teachers College from 1959 to 1968. He represented the university on several regional and national committees during his tenure and was active in developing new teaching methods for adults and people with hearing impairments.
Meirhenry formerly was vice president of the Adult Education Association of America and was secretary of the Missouri Valley Adult Education Association.
Meierhenry, a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church, earned a bachelor's degree from Midland Lutheran College in Fremont and received both his master's and doctorate from the University of Nebraska.
He was a member of Midland's board of trustees and received an honorary doctoral degree from Omaha's Bishop Clarkson College in December. Before joining the university, he taught in the Repulican City public schools from 1936 to 1943.
He was active in the Lincoln Center Kiwanis, Phi Delta Kappa, Bishop Clarkson College's educational advisory committee and the Combined Health Agencies Drive of Nebraska board.
Survivors include his wife, Delsie; sons, Dwight, Las Vegas, Nev, Redge, Helena, Mont., Kent, Hayward, Calif.; brother Harold, Fremont; and three grandchildren.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 1989 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lincoln for Dr. Wesley C. Meierhenry, 74 who died December 30, 1989 at Bryan Hospital in Lincoln. Interment is in Lincoln Memorial Park.
Wesley C. Meierhenry was born November 12, 1915 at Arlington, Nebraska to Carl and Anna Niederdeppe Meierhenry.
He married Delsie Boschult.
He was a retired Chairman of the Adult and Continuing Education Department at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He held an honorary Doctor of Humanitarity Service from Bishop Clarkson College, Omaha.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Lincoln Kiwanis Club, a former member of the Board of Trustees of Midland College, former Trustee of Human Resources Foundation, a member of the Educational Advisory Committee since its inception of Bishop Clarkson College of Omaha and a board member of the Combine Health Agencies of Nebraska. He also was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Honorary Fraternity.
He is survived by his wife, Delsie S., of Lincoln; sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight and Barbara of Las Vegas, Nevada; Kent of San Francisco; Redge R. and Phyllis of Helena, Montana; three grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Iola Meierhenry of Fremont.
Pallbearers are Dr. Robert Florell, Dr. Quentin Gessner, Dr. Erwin Goldenstein, Dr. Dale Hayes, Dr. Ron Joekel, Dr. Willis Moreland, Dr. Alan Seagren, and Dr. Ward Syboutz. Roper and Sons of Lincoln is in charge of arrangements for the services.
