Kenneth Charles Jensen Sr., 75, went home to be with his Lord on Nov. 26, following complications of diabetes and renal failure. He was surrounded by his family and pastor at the UIHC.
Ken was born to Alfred and Helen Vrana Jensen in Iowa City. He attended school in Coralville and was in the last graduating class from University High. Ken worked in the U of I physical Plant then moved to the University Hospital as the Assistant Director of Plant Operations. He was well known for his strong work ethic and being a perfectionist with his work.
He married Barbara (Simonson) Grabin on April 7, 1984. Both Ken and Barb lived for camping and trout fishing. Ken was frequently seen around Oxford on his motorized scooter, quite often with his grandchildren. Wes and Hannah riding with him. He enjoyed remodeling, and had a fascination with trains, both model and the real thing. Ken had a deep personal faith. He was a member of the Cedar Rapids Emmaus Community, and loved going to Promise Keeper's events. Ken was a member of the Hands of Christ Church, and had recently been visiting Valley Church near Swisher.
He is survived by his wife, Barb of Oxford, children Joh Jensen-Willis, Freida (Mike) Power, Charles Jensen, Alec Jensen and Adam (Jeri) Jensen all of Oxford, Ben (Stacie) Jensen of Oklahoma, OK, Mary Cahill of Williamsburg, Margaret Jensen of West Liberty, Alice (Bill) Taylor of Montezuma, Joseph (Shirley) Jensen of Watkins, George Jensen of West Liberty and Laura (Christian) Elliott of West Liberty. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, on brother, Richard (Marilyn) Jensen of Coralville, sisters, Betty Kemp of Coralville and Marilyn Butterbaugh of North Liberty and mother-in-law Alice Simonson of Oxford.
Preceding Kenny in death were his parents, one sister, Mary Ann, one son Kenneth Charles Jensen, Jr, father-in-law, Wendell Simonson and two brothers-in-law, Ken Butterbaugh and Omer Kemp.
Services: Monday, Dec. 1, 2:00 PM at St. Mary's Hall, Oxford Visitation: Sunday from 4-7 at St. Mary's Hall, Oxford. Burial: Oxford Cemetery Memorial: General Fund established
