An inquiry by the chief of police at Louisville, Ky., was received by the authorities in Palatka the other day asking them to locate, if possible, a young man, Thomas M. Blackmore by name, that his mother was anxious to hear from him, and that the last heard of him was to effect that he was ill in Palatka.
The young man was located in the city on Monday and he was very ill, due to consumption. Dr. Steen who saw him stated that he was in advanced stages of tuberculosis. The police wired his mother that he was in a dying condition. They were right; he died that night.
The remains were taken in charge by Mooney & Davis, the undertakers and prepared for burial. On Tuesday afternoon a telegram from the sorrowing mother asked that he be buried here. The funeral was conducted by Archdeacon Wyllie at the undertaking parlors at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning and the interment was at Oak Hill East Cemetery.
The dead man was about 30 years of age and had been here for several days. When able he had occupied his time selling fountain pens on the street. Quite a number of citizens attended the funeral services and it will be a comfort to his mother to know that he was tenderly cared for in his last illness and that his funeral was attended by one who ministered in love the last rites of the Christian church.
