Mark A. Akers, age 59 of Monroe and Goldsboro, North Carolina, died at 1:15 am Wednesday in his Monroe home. He had been in poor health for three years.

Friends may call from 5 – 8 p.m. today and 1 – 8 p.m. Friday at Rupp Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Ted Aller will officiate with Military honors provided by Monroe Post 1138 Veteran's of Foreign Wars.

Born October 2, 1953 in Wyandotte, Michigan, he was the son of the late Ralph and Magdalene (Hollenbach) Akers. He married Anita S. (Booth) Lindsay on October 26, 1990 in Brownstown Township.

Mark served in the United States Air Force as a Military Police Officer from April 8, 1971 to April 25, 1974.

Mark was employed by Ford Motor Company for 33 ½ years. He worked at several of their plants as a Millwright, Union Representative, and Bargaining Representative before retiring in June of 2009.

As a member of UAW Local 182 in Livonia, Mark served as President for ten years and played Santa Claus for many years for under privileged children in the Livonia area.

Mark is survived by his wife Anita; two sons, Matthew (Tonya) Lindsay of Monroe and Jeremy (Aimee) Lindsay of LaSalle; two daughters, Sherri (Brent) Hill of Canton and Katherine Church of Goldsboro, North Carolina; two brothers, Ralph (Gloria) Akers of LaPorte, Indiana and Stephen (Julie) Akers of Waterford, Michigan; three sisters, Margaret (Bill) Barron, Roberta (Scott) Clauss, and Karen Bostek all of Grosse Ile; and four grandchildren.
