Our beloved “Irish”, Madeline Ann Campbell passed away on November 28th, 2011. She was born August 13th, 1921 in Butte Montana, to Bernard and Bridget Coll, immigrants from County Donegal, Ireland. At the age of six, she and her brothers and sisters were orphaned when both parents passed away, separately, in the same year. At the age of 8, she was adopted by Joseph and Kathryn McLaren who had a son of their own, Stuart (aka John). On October 21, 1940 she married the love of her life, Alva Campbell. After a 5 year stay in San Francisco where Madeline worked as a pipe fitters assistant during the war, they moved on to Monterey for five years and eventually settled in the Napa Valley. She worked for 16 years at Charles Krug Winery and made many life-long friends in the St. Helena area. She and Al shared a life full of love, laughter, friends and family. They had many years of fun together taking trips to their cabin, enjoying the outdoors and both loved to gamble. In 1997 they moved to Leisure Town in Vacaville. Sadly in 1998, after 58 years of marriage, Al preceded Madeline in death. Madeline spent the later years of her life enjoying time with her beloved (and spoiled) dog “Hanzie” and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grand children, and many friends. Madeline is preceded in death by her husband, Alva Campbell; sisters Catherine (Kay) Middleton, and Margaret (Margie) Coll; brothers, Tom, Barney, and Charlie Coll. She is survived by her brother and sister in-law, Stuart (John) and Patricia MacLaren; Nieces, Shelly Scott, Barbra MacLaren, and Paula MacLaren; Nephew, Brice MacLaren; daughter and son in-law, Gail and Nelson Dietrich; daughter and son in-law, Kathy and Louis Moore; granddaughter and grandson in-law, Jennifer and Jamal Anderson; granddaughter and grandson in-law, Laura and Dan Strachan; grandson, Kelly Moore; and great grandchildren Morgan Anderson, Sydney Anderson, Quinn Strachan, and Cooper Strachan. There will be a celebration of her life at 11:00 on Saturday, December 3, at the Leisure Town Hall, located at 100 Sequoia Dr. Internment will be private.
