Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Jean Hobbs, 79, of Destin, Fla., were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006 at the chapel of Kent Funeral Home in Eufaula with burial to follow in Belcher Bethel Church Cemetery in Bakerhill.

Mrs. Hobbs died Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Delta Health Care in Destin after a lengthy illness. She was born May 25, 1927 in Ramar to the late Robert Lee and Alabama Shirley Fendley. She was raised in Eufaula and graduated from Eufaula High School in 1945.

Mrs. Hobbs was a resident of Ozark for a number of years, but returned to the Eufaula, Georgetown area in 1979 and lived there until her health no longer permitted. In 2004 she moved to Daleville to be near her son Robin and later moved to Delta Health Care in Destin. She was a member of the Daleville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hobbs was an avid reader and loved poetry. In 2001 she published a book of her own poetry, Expressions in Rhyme, and was pleased to have the book added to the Library of Congress.

Survivors include three sons, Terry Dykes and Frank Hobbs, both of Orange Beach and Robin Hobbs, Daleville; two daughters, Donna Pepper Smith of Lilburn, Ga., and Janet Beasley of Destin, Fla.; a brother, Jim Fendley of Georgetown, Ga.; a sister, Lois Turner of Phenix City; six grandchildren, Dustin Dykes, Desi Shrestha, Lindsey Spalding, Lance Hobbs, Jared Hobbs and Kendall Hobbs; 10 step-grandchildren, Savannah Beasley, James Larry Beasley, Caroline Hayles, John Pepper, Paulette Simpson, Casey Long, Caiden Long, Renae Cox, Ryan Cox and Trevor Cox; and one great grandson, Jackson Spalding.

Serving as pallbearers were Ellis Whitehead, Tommy Bennett, Clayton Bennett, Jason Bennett, Lee Green, and Joey Seaborn.
