Bobby J. "Bob" Robison

Bobby J. "Bob" Robison passed away peacefully at his home in Jacksonville, Duval County, FL, Monday, November 5, 2012, after a courageous five-year battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Cobden, Union County, Illinois, on November 14, 1928 and moved to Flint, Michigan as a young child. He graduated from Utley High School in 1947. He played football and was also a Golden Gloves boxer. Bob was an entrepreneur who believed in hard work and loved business. He was trained as a meat cutter at age 14 and opened his first restaurant, The Bob Inn, at age 19. By the time he was 21 years old he owned four restaurants while working for Comer & Fox in Fenton, MI, as a meat cutter and grocery man. He moved his family to Sarasota, Florida in 1961 where he began his 38-year career with Publix Supermarkets, Inc. starting as a stockman. He quickly moved up the ranks and went to Lakeland, Florida as a buyer. He proudly spoke of having his office next to Mr. George Jenkins, founder of Publix and mentor to Bob. Bob helped open the Jacksonville Division of Publix and was promoted to Director of Merchandising. He developed lasting friendships with many of the food brokers, sales representatives and suppliers who called on him. After Bob's retirement from Publix, he became co-owner of W. G. Pitts Company, a general contracting business where he practiced business principles learned from Publix. Bob was a member of Beach United Methodist Church where he served as greeter for several years. He also worked as a volunteer at Mission House, Jacksonville Beach, serving meals to the homeless. Bob was a past member of Kiwanas International, St. Johns Dinner Club, Ponte Vedra and Hidden Hills Country Clubs. He was a supporter of Children's Miracle Network and played in many charity golf tournaments. Bob was an avid golfer and shot a hole-in-one in 2004! He was an humble and generous man with a deep faith in God and strong personal character. He had great wisdom and was always concerned about the well-being of others.
