Harold E. Floyd, 69, of Bradenton, Florida, went to be with the Lord on April 30, 2010.

He was born June 13, 1940, in Alapaha, Georgia, the son of the late Henry H. and Mary M. Floyd.

He was predeceased by grandson, Alex Michael Floyd. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 52 years, Mary Alyce. He is survived by his brother, Bill Floyd of Ocala, Florida. He is also survived by his daughter, Kim Kennedy (Mike) of Bradenton, Florida; two sons, Steve Floyd (Holly) of Bradenton; Keith Floyd (Lisa) of Sarasota; six grandchildren, Kristen (Kennedy) Gaulter (Billy), Ryan Kennedy, Jenna Floyd, Chelsea Floyd, Zach Floyd, Nick Floyd and one great grandchild, Jacob Gaulter.

Harold moved to the Manatee County area in 1941. He grew up in Samoset and was a 1958 graduate of Manatee County High School, where he excelled in both football and baseball.

He was active and instrumental in youth sports, coaching and mentoring numerous players over his coaching career. One of his coaching highlights was the 1997 Manatee East team, which finished 3rd at the Little League World Series.

He was a very talented lead guitar player and played with many bands during his life. Recently, he was the lead guitarist for the Gospel Jamboree band at Christian Retreat.

Those who knew 'Harry' knew him as a great friend, baseball coach, mentor and one heck of a 'guitar picker.'

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Manatee County, 6220 Manatee Ave. W., Ste. 201, Bradenton, Florida 34209.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on May 8, 2010 at the Happy Gospel Church/Center, 1915 53rd Ave. E., in Bradenton, Florida. Officiating will be Pastor George Henderson of Alva, Florida.
