APPOMATTOX -Geneva Horsley Childers, 97, of Rt. 3, died Sunday morning, Nov. 15, 1998 in Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Dillwyn. She was the wife of the late James Washington (Jim) Childers. Born in Appomattox County, Sept. 8, 1901, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Abbitt and Lillian Marsh Horsley. Mrs. Childers was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church where she taught the Junior Sunday School Class, the Oakville Home and Garden Club and the UDC. She also was a homemaker and a former employee of Virginia Novelty Co. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Opal C. and Roger Doyle, Cincinnati, Ohio and Betty C. and Howard Phelps, Appomattox; one brother and three sisters, Benjamin Colvin (Tolly) Horsley, Hazel Elliott, Vaida Shelton and Lillian Linn all of Lynchburg; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998 at Red Oak Baptist Church by the Rev. Chris Caudle and the Rev. Les Trail with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Betty and Howard Phelps. Those wishing to make memorials are asked to consider Red Oak Baptist Church.
