M.L. Alexander, Businessman, Dies in Hospital
Mervin L. Alexander, 64, Rushville businessman, died Tuesday afternoon in the U.S. Veterans Hospital, Indianapolis, where he had been a patient the last few weeks.
Mr. Alexander was manager of the Northgage Apartments, 1616 North Main, where he made his home, and he also was employed as construction supervisor for the new wing now being built at Rush Memorial Hospital until he became ill.
Previously, he was connected with the automobile business in Rushville for many years, both as a dealer and a salesman.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Alexander was one of the few servicemen from this area to serve in Russia in that conflict. He held the rank of lieutenant-colonel in the U.S. Air Force.
He was born in Indianapolis on March 18, 1905, the son of George C. and Auda Wilson Alexander, and was married in 1928 to Kathryn Northam, who survives.
Mr. Alexander was a member and former trustee of Main Street Christian Church, a member of and past exalted ruler of the Rushville Elks Lodge and a member and past commander of the local American Legion Post.
Surviving with the widow are a son, George C. Alexander, D.V.M. of Shirley; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Jane) Stumpf of Rushville; a brother, Marland Alexander of Sarasota, Fla., and six grandchildren. Twin sisters preceded him in death.
The Rev. Richard Merriman will conduct services at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Wyatt-Moore-Milan Mortuary, where friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday, with burial in East Hill Cemetery. The family will be at the mortuary from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 Thursday.
