Edwin was the eldest son of Reuben and his wife Amanda Josephine (Stotz) Albert who died at 30, and Reuben married again. Reuben was a civil engineer and did one of the Panama Canal locks, retired, then owned a store at Wind Gap, Pa.

Edwin graduated from Fairview Academy, Brodheadsville, Pa. then did better on the yearly county teachers exam (c1885) than SS Kresge, who went on to found Kresge 5 & 10 cent stores and K-Mart and become a millionaire. Edwin got the teaching position that Kresge had the previous year.

Edwin worked a few years as a surveyor with the Lehigh and New England Railroad Company where Peter Johnson worked as a train engineer. Edwin met PR's sister Mary Netia Johnson, and they were married on Sept 29, 1893 in Delaware Water Gap, perhaps because PR Johnson had taken over the large Glenwood hotel by then.

Initially they lived in Portland and helped eldest brother John I Johnson as manager of his hotel, but then bought the Belfast Hotel, until they sold that and moved to The Glenwood as manager with PR Johnson. Their daughter Hazel had been born in room 5 of the Glenwood on Sept 28, 1894 while Mary Netia was visiting her mother and brother.

Hazel married Robert Allen Bixler, an auditor for the Pa. Railroad main offices in Philadelphia, in 1920. Bixler resigned from the RR and they joined her parents Edwin and Mary Netia, and Uncle Pete Johnson at 802 Main St. Stroudsburg two years later. Edwin and Robert purchased the Hoffman and MacDonough Hardware Store at 633 Main Street, Stroudsburg operating for about a year as Albert and Bixler, and then as the Bixler Hardware Store.

Edwin Albert was Chief Burgess of Delaware Water Gap for several years until they moved. "Active in fraternal organizations, Mr. Albert has been a past master of Portland Lodge No. 31, for the past 53 years. He has been a member of the Masonic fraternity for some 58 years [1892]. Mr. Albert was a member of Royal Arch Chapter No. 281, Lehigh Consistory, and Irem Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., Wilkes Barre, East Stroudsburg Lodge No. 319, B.P.O.E., Stroudsburg Aerie No. 1103, F.O.E., Pocono Shrine Club." [Daily Record, Ap 13, 1948]

Edwin is buried in the family plot with his wife Mary Netia Johnson Albert (Marinett on stone), her brother Peter Johnson, their daughter Hazel and Robert Allen Bixler Sr and their son Robert Allen and Elizabeth Bixler.
